The summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the final days of the season with a few food holidays! This August we have plenty to feel victorious about including a day dedicated to all things bacon.
A great source of Vitamin C and manganese, zucchini is a delicious and healthy veggie that makes a great addition to any meal. The word zucchini comes from the term “zucca” which is Italian for squash. With more potassium than a banana, this vegetable is a true super food.
So how do you celebrate on National Zucchini Day? We recommend trying one of our newest dishes from The New York Times Cooking: Summer Pasta with Zucchini. This fresh dish by David Tanis combines lemon, chili flakes, ricotta, parmesan and zucchini for an unbelievable flavor profile. At $33 for 4 servings, this meal is something the whole family can enjoy!
Nothing screams summer like a good old-fashioned hot dog, but this August why not kick it up a notch with gourmet bratwurst? Popular in Germany, particularly around Oktoberfest, this sausage typically consists of pork and veal with various spices.
This National Bratwurst Day, try our authentic Bratwurst Sandwiches! Our German sausages are simmered in beer and topped with sauerkraut, whole grain mustard, and crispy bacon.
Speaking of bacon… we all know that everything tastes better with bacon. It’s science. So when we heard it was National Bacon Lovers Day, we couldn’t wait to celebrate! Here are some facts about bacon that you may not know: bacon has been around since 1500 B.C., though different regions use different cuts of meat. The BLT became famous after World War II when supermarkets expanded, allowing fresh tomatoes and lettuce to be available all year long. In fact, bacon is so popular, you can find bacon flavored everything these days. From dental floss to vodka, cologne to lip balm, consumers want to incorporate the scent and flavor in every aspect of their lives.
For National Bacon Lovers Day, we recommend the Chicken with Tarragon paired with Brussels Sprouts and Bacon from James Beard Foundation. Tarragon is a unique herb that goes tremendously well with chicken, while the bacon takes the Brussels sprouts to a whole new level of deliciousness.
We love burgers so much that we couldn’t JUST celebrate with National Hamburger Day in July! We believe that this tasty food deserves to be celebrated throughout the year, and especially over the summer. With so many variations and unique takes on the classic burger, you can experience a variety of flavor profiles every time you indulge.
To commemorate National Burger Day, we’re showcasing our Grilled Lamb Burger with Vegetable Couscous Salad! This dish is no ordinary burger; the patty itself is charred to perfection and topped with tangy feta and tzatziki that will take you all the way to Greece. Easy to cook and even easier to eat, this burger is a real winner.
